The Foundation Stage at GDPS is built around a single belief: that a child's first years of school experience must feel safe, joyful, and full of wonder. Academic learning happens most powerfully when children feel genuinely comfortable — and when learning feels indistinguishable from play.
The Li'l Oasis Environment
Our youngest learners — Pre-KG and KG — live within Li'l Oasis, a purpose-built environment designed specifically for early childhood. It is stimulating without being overwhelming, structured without being rigid, and populated with materials and activities chosen to match the developmental stage of children who are just beginning their relationship with formal learning.
The Montessori Lab at this stage promotes sensory exploration, fine motor development, and early cognitive growth through hands-on materials and child-directed activity — establishing the love of learning before a single textbook is opened.
What Children Learn

At the Foundation Stage, every activity is designed to be experienced rather than delivered. Circle time, story sessions, Shadow Play, movement activities, and hands-on making are the primary vehicles of learning. Assessment at this stage is observational — focused on participation, engagement, and individual developmental progress rather than marks. Our Early Childhood educators are trained specifically for this age group, and they bring both patience and genuine delight to the work of helping very young children make sense of their world.
