Assessment & Reporting
Assessment at GDPS serves one primary purpose: to give students, teachers, and families clear, honest, and useful information about learning. We assess to understand — not simply to rank.
Assessment Philosophy
GDPS follows a continuous and comprehensive assessment model aligned to CBSE guidelines. Assessment is spread across the academic year rather than concentrated in high-stakes end-of-year examinations — allowing teachers to monitor progress, identify gaps, and intervene early.
Both formative and summative assessments are used across all grades.
Types Of Assessment
Formative Assessments (FA) — ongoing classroom activities, assignments, projects, and oral evaluations that provide regular feedback without the pressure of formal examinations.
Summative Assessments (SA) — periodic written examinations that test knowledge and understanding according to the CBSE curriculum.
Project Work — research, creative, and collaborative projects that assess skills that written tests cannot easily measure.
Co-scholastic Assessment — participation, attitude, values, and co-curricular engagement are formally recorded as part of each student’s profile.
Board Examinations — Grade X and Grade XII CBSE board examinations are the culminating formal assessment of the secondary years.
Reporting To Families
GDPS communicates assessment outcomes to families through a structured reporting cycle. Report cards are issued at the end of each term, accompanied by teacher remarks that go beyond marks to describe the student’s engagement, growth, and areas for development.
Parent-Teacher Meetings provide dedicated time for families to discuss their child’s progress directly with subject teachers and the Principal.
The Parent Connect system provides families with ongoing access to attendance, circulars, and school updates between formal reporting periods — ensuring that no parent is ever waiting for the term-end card to find out how their child is doing.
