Carpentry & Making Studio

The GDPS Carpentry & Making Studio is a space for building things — and for building the kind of thinking that making things requires. Working with wood at a larger scale than the turning workshop, students here engage in joinery, construction, furniture design, and structural projects that combine craftsmanship with engineering principles.

The Skills That Transfer

Carpentry develops a set of transferable capabilities that are genuinely difficult to build in any other way. Measuring accurately. Planning ahead. Working within material constraints. Adapting when something does not go as designed. Finishing with care. These are not carpentry skills — they are life skills, and GDPS builds them in a workshop because workshops are where they are most honestly encountered.
